BILL EDWARDS CLASS

How We Got Our Name

Our class was named to honor Rev. Bill Edwards who was the pastor of KUMC from June, 1976 to June, 1983.  Our church was still on Cherokee Street when Bill arrived in Kennesaw.  While he was here our new building was built and the church moved to its present location.  He saw a need for a Sunday School class for a group of "unique" adults so in 1977, he started the Christian Growth Class to fill this need.  After several years the Christian Growth Class had grown to about 90 members and divided into to three smaller classes. The Christian Growth Class, Friends In Faith Class and The Bill Edwards Class have all continued to grow and accomplish great things at KUMC.

Who We Are

Members of The Bill Edwards Class are a diverse group of individuals ranging in age from 40 on up.  Some of us are still raising children and working on careers while others are enjoying retirement and grandchildren. Each Sunday morning we gather together in Room 234 at 9:45 for coffee, hugs and laughter to share our concerns, celebrate our joys and study God's word.

What We Enjoy!

We are quite a social group and enjoy gathering monthly either in our homes for a potluck dinner or at a local restaurant.  We plan several trips and outings during the year such as our annual fall retreat to the North Georgia Mountains.  We also enjoy attending local theatre productions and special events as a group.  Regardless of what our activities are, we are guaranteed to have a great time just being together.

Our Mission

The Bill Edwards Class is known for being a caring, supportive group of people. We aim to come together and not only lend support to one another but also to those around us.  Several years ago we felt a special call to be in ministry to the most senior members of our church family and formed what is now known as BESSCARE.  We organize into monthly support teams to visit, send cards or call and offer assistance with such things as emergency errands,, emergency transportation, home or auto repair referrals, inclement weather needs, or reading and letter writing.

We are proud to have many of our class members serving in leadership positions in our church and many more have served in the past.  Having this representation brings forth many opportunities to get involved in all areas and ministries of the church.
