Friends in Faith Sunday School Class
Come join us in our journey of faith
Where: Room 210 The Parlor, by the church office
When: Every Sunday, 9:45 until 10:45
Sunday School - The Friends In Faith class begins gathering at 9:45 in the parlor near the church office. Our class leader starts us off with announcements and any necessary business. Members then share praises and prayer concerns for the week. Prayer closes the social portion of class and leads us into our study of the week. Several class members take turns preparing and teaching weekly lessons, usually based on books and topics suggested by class members. Examples of books we have studied include, The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado, to name only two of many. All members are invited to suggest study topics and lead a Sunday lesson if they would like to serve in that way.
History - The Friends in Faith class is a diverse group of friends who come together Sunday mornings for study, prayer, and fellowship. Friends in Faith was formed in 1989 and many of the members have been with the class since the beginning. We are excited that new members have joined us each year since and our doors are always open to visitors. Our members include married couples, singles, singles again, parents and grandparents. We range in age from young-in-years to young-at-heart! Together we have children ranging from elementary school to adulthood. We are an active bunch, with members serving in many areas of the church, including leadership committees, music choirs, children & youth programs and various other ministries. We make up a unique, caring spiritually driven community dedicated to supporting each other through our journey of faith.
Social Events - Our class enjoys many opportunities for fellowship together and we welcome new friends to join us anytime! Once a month, a class member usually hosts a monthly gathering at their home. Food is of course always involved and many members enjoy playing games together such as cards, dominoes and horseshoes. Our Christmas gathering is always a special occasion for celebration together and members make a donation to DFACS in lieu of a gift exchange. Once a year many members participate in a long weekend retreat to the Tennessee mountains
Friends in Faith has been known for many years for a silent auction and dinner held each fall. In 2009, we began trying new fundraisers. We started the year with a very successful and delicious vegetable luncheon which was repeated in the fall. Our fundraisers are always fun group activities that allow all members to contribute as they are able. Come join us for some good down home cookin’. We have some of the best cooks in the church!
Missions - Recognizing our own abundance of blessings and desiring to share our gifts with others, the Friends in Faith class support many missions through fundraisers and service time, including: Must Breakfasts, UM Children’s Home, Sue Kirk Scholarship, Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, Mountain Top Boys’ Home, Camp Glisson, KUMC Mission Trips and Shiloh/KUMC Food Pantry We also participate in special church events reaching out to serve the local community.
